Bottom line: The young man apparently is now a free agent since Baltimore pulled its offer following a reported failed physical.

Let's hope that another team doesn't have significant unspent rookie dollars that it can throw in his direction.

Quite right about being a free agent. Evidently he will be fairly expensive and most team's money is PROBBLY used up.

He did tweet texags guys that he was looking forward to helping Aggies win a couple of CWS.

He also said he would be on campus Monday. Isn't that first day of 2nd session?

I have no idea if there is a period of time for this particular type of free agency and/or how it affects the rules governing being drafted again and 3 year rule.

It says he is 18 years and 7 months. So I guess he turns 19 in December.

Once he enrolls at A&M and starts classes on scholarship, then he is under regular rules of draft/college.

There are other teams in MLB interested. I guess that the money they pay him now does not count against anything...except the bottom line...

Thought I heard that we have a football player that is going to start school this week--even though summer session has started it was reported that this week would still be in time for late registration for the second summer session...

If so, perhaps the rule permitting registration within certain limits also apply to him... Think

Jack is headed to San Fran tomorrow. Reportedly, pending a physical, he will sign with Giants at a considerable raise above Oriole original offer of contract and schooling that approached $1.5 million.

Good luck to the young man... Gig 'em

The $64 dollar question is this:

Baltimore apparently had a strong inkling -- if not flat out knowledge -- that he would reject their deal.

Did it have to rescind the offer in order to sign other draft picks? If not, why in the world did they do that? It simply created an opportunity for one of their competitors (albeit in a different league, but still a MLB franchise competing for the same ultimate prize as the O's) to improve at the O's expense -- in effect, with house money as it were.

And it turns again, in our favor!

I hope the arm issue can be remedied & he has great success w/us.

This saga reminds me of the old Miler Lite commercial with George Steinbrenner and Billy Martin.

If you're not old enough to remember it, Google and YouTube are your friend.

Gabe Bock reports that the Conlan camp has verified the saga is over.

The lad will be moving to A&M, has roommates set, and should be moved in by next weekend. All conversation with Childress has been completed.

He has free agency rights through August, but that ends when he officially moves into his apartment. I assume paid, or partially paid by the baseball program.

Conlin moved into apartment in College Station.

He is officially on the baseball team and will begin fall classes.

Mid-90's RHP is now an Aggie...
