Bob is still smarting from his loss to A&M. Appears very defensive, unlike his team's play in the Cotton Bowl. Razz

One statistical oddity ... the top half of any conference is always better than the bottom half of the same conference. Wink

Comparing the two to each other is worthless as is comparing the top half of the Big 12 to the bottom half of the SEC -- that's what Coach Stoops seems to be doing.

The proper (and not very favorable for the Big 12) comparison is the top half of the Big 12 to the top half of the SEC and the bottom half of the Big 12 to the bottom half of the SEC.

I'm Mr. Obvious, I know, I know.

Get off Bobby's back. He is just being a good little tu 12 agent...

Agree with Micky and Agdad, Micky, even though your point may seem obvious to you, this is the first place that I have seen it mentioned, and you are spot on. The point they seem to be trying to make is nonsensical. They are talking, but their words make no sense.

And pay no mind to the inconvenient fact that Ole Miss was plowed at The Grove by some team from Texas - oh, wait, it WAS Texas, the fifth- or sixth-best team in the Big 12 Conference last year. Yeah, best ignore that one.

Uh, well, Texas finished THIRD in the Big 12 last year, with a conference record of 5-4. Ole Miss finished 8th in the SEC (4th in the SEC west) with a conference record of 4-4.

Not only is the writer stupid, he's got actual facts wrong.

Nice article picking apart Stoop's talking points.

Quote:

Of the Big 12's nine bowl teams, five of them – more than half – finished 4-5 or worse in conference play.

Out of the SEC's nine bowl teams, only two had non-winning records in conference play: Mississippi State was 4-4 and Ole Miss was 3-5. Every other SEC bowl team was 5-3 or better in conference play.

As for how those teams fared in bowl games, the SEC was 6-3 and the Big 12 was 4-5.

He's delusional, and I like the comments, many from Tulsa fans or OK based fans that call him out on it.

So what if the bottom half of the SEC wasn't as strong as the bottom half of the Big XII, even if true, which I don't think it is true, but go ahead and give it to him.

OK, so the top half of the SEC, 7 teams was very good to elite. The entire Big 12 has 10 teams. Cow was an awful team, almost/should have lost to lowly Kansas. And they finished 3rd in that pathetic conference.

A&M finished 3rd in the SEC West and probably 5th overall in the SEC, and absolutely drubbed Bob's Big 12 Co-Champion in the Cotton Bowl by a score that could have been 20+ points worse if we didn't decide to take pity on them and Sumlin not wanting to embarass his former boss.

OK, so maybe Iowa State and Kansas were better than Kentucky and Vanderbilt, maybe, but A&M, Alabama, LSU, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina were ALL better than OU or Kansas State. So continue your 3 year old logic and try to continue to explain it, Bob.

The SEC also played in better bowls against better competition than the BDF, across the board. Gig 'em

Kansas and Iowa State better than Vandy and KU. I really don't think so. Besides, who in their right mind would want to engage in that debate?

Better than UK, probably. Better than Vandy? No way. Vandy ended up 9-4 and won their bowl game. ISU ended up 6-7 and lost their bowl game.

SEC had nine teams end up with winning records; B12-4+2 had eight. B12-4+2 only had 4 teams with winning conference records whereas SEC had seven teams with winning conference records.

I agree with Rocket. What possible upside does Bob have engaging in this debate? It reeks of a desperate coach from a desperate conference who is finding it harder and harder to convince top recruits to play in a second rate league. He's clearly getting frustrated.

C.F.L. just fried Stoops over his comments, and showed his recent record against the SEC - not pretty. Maybe he's just trying to get the Land Grabber fans excited about another season and beating the dog squeeze outta t.u. in Dallas and then fall on their face in a bowl. Maybe... Think

Kinda funny, really.

ou, tu, mich, usc, ND, Fordham...a group in the biggest of big football programs for 5 and plus decades, all vying to be the last to die.

ND was in the title game, but showed they are certainly NOT back to elite status (yet, anyway)...

Ohio State is still kicking, but they have been emabarrased. Penn State had a 30 year run at the bottom of the elite pile, but they have been embarrassed. Both are mired in a has-been conference. That conference certainly may rebound, driven by that coach in Columbus in his recruiting tactics and movement toward a modern offense somewhat...

Being elite and remaining elite has changed. This is not the good ole daze. You do have to be willing to make the tough decisions to go with changing trends.

I still hate leaving the old rivalries, the region we played in and all of that.

But we do fit culturally with the SEC and we showed last year that we belong, at least for now. No telling what the future holds in store...but it looks very favorable...

Those teams had some great runs. They have lived off of that for a long time. Kids can see many more teams every week on TV than they did when you could get two, maybe three games per week.

Mack and Bob innovated. But they have been left behind... Gig 'em

This is FUN!!

Quote:
The Heisman winner began his career in the Big 12 in 2011. He was redshirted. You redshirt someone when he’s not good enough to play for you. So Johnny Manziel was not good enough to play in the Big 12.

Then Texas A&M moves to the SEC, and Manziel suddenly suits up and torches the entire conference – including national “champion” Alabama. Manziel wasn’t good enough to play in the Big 12 … yet will go down as one of the greatest players in SEC history. What does that tell you? I’m just asking you. I don’t know. You figure it all out.

I have figured it out. We got a brand new coach. Maybe you missed that little fact.

I will say, Stoops is right. The SEC is top heavy.

Look at the top of the SEC...(rankings based on final AP poll)

#1 - Alabama
#4 - Georgia
#5 - Texas Aggies
#8 - South Carolina
#9 - Florida
#14 - LSU
#23 - Vanderbilt

If you remove those teams from the SEC, you really you have nothing left. Plus, tu killed Ol Miss. That's all the proof you need!!

Big Grin Big Grin
