Last I heard it was 82,500. The OSU game had 86,217 without any temporary seats. How is that possible? They are fudging the numbers.

a few things....
one, I think the official capacity is 82,600
two, may not include the south end zone bleachers which are movable
third, not sure how they count people on the field
like yell leaders, mascot handlers, the other teams
cheerleaders, etc.
fourth, as Byrne had in his letter this week, they recently went to counting ticket sales and not turnstile count...not sure how that would be different, but no shows still counted in ticket sales
fifth, they may have some standing room tickets we are not aware of

I believe the attendance count comes from scanning the bar code on your ticket. Several years ago, they increased the seating capacity by estimating the size of the average rear end at something ling 14 inches. They sure missed it on me.

Attendance numbers now come from total tickets sold. Not butts in the stands.

You are right, the Baylor method is counting feet that enter the stadium....My bad......... Cool

that is how mot schools count them. For instance, Nebraska talks about how this is the billionth consecutive sellout game- as the camera pans and shows a bunch of empty seats.

You guys are both half-right.

When they announce attendance at A&M, it includes all of the following...

every alum season ticket (whether they attend or no-show)
every student ticket pulled (whether they attend or no-show)
every employee - ushers, concession workers, grounds crew
every comped ticket given to players, A&M, athletic dept
every member of the media in attendance
every coach, player, trainer in the stadium

Most places do that, that is why it is called "attendance" and not "fans" or "tickets sold"..

Support this season, for a flagging program, has been great. Fish students have been great.

You can't have an attendance of 86K if there aren't 86K seats available, regardless of butts in the seat. If you have 86K tickets sold, you have to have that many seats in the stadium and we did not. You don't project of your tickets sold how many people will actually show up. Our attendance numbers this year and especially our last home are completely fake.

The bleachers do not count towards the "official" capacity, much like chairs set up around the sidelines for our big home games.

To get the record, you have to have the bleachers in the end-zone full as well as chairs around the track.

Our last home game had the bleachers pretty full, which meant the attendance was going to be well above the 82,600 capacity.

The CIA fits a special camera on the belly of one of the flyover aircraft. They take a snapshot of the crowd on the flyover, and NSA computes the number of individuals in the crowd. Very Happy

Yes you can. Just for example, if a game is a sellout the attendance will be at least +400 for a non-televised game and +1000 for a televised game. That is just for the two teams (at least 100 ea.), the stadium staff (at least 200 at a small stadium), and the media (at least 100 for non-televised game).

That is before you throw in temporary seating like the South End Bleachers, any temporary seating, and a stadium always has the option of selling SRO tickets on top of that. IIRC the Fire Marshall's max occupancy for Kyle Field is a tad over 93k...

That's why we didn't have 87,000+ in attendance. Here is what I think I remember from a while back. I actually called the AD's office to try to get an understanding on this issue because it was rather confusing to me.

1. No seats in the bleachers, capacity = 82,600

2. Seats in the bleachers take the number to 86,500

3. Seats on the track = over 86,500. Largest ever was 87,555.

Good point about standing tickets. I guess they could sell some of those and still not pull out the chairs on the field. I'm not sure where those fit into the equation.

Do students get a seat assignment now or just a section?

We got seats (or places to stand, really) when I was there.
